After six crime stories I feel it's time to move on to another literary field. Mainstream fiction supplies sufficient space for philosophy and humor, two essential elements in my writing. My first title in this genre is WHEN THE BUBBLES BURST. If you like good old stories involving excitement, conspiracy, carefully edited dialogue and well delineated characters this one is for you. Stay tuned for publishing date and more info. |

WHEN THE BUBBLES BURST "What's muddy in speech is muddy in the mind" WHEN THE BUBBLES BURST is a story about the human fancy for hiding inside shelter of self-deception. When the bubbles crack, pride and integrity go with them. Some bubbles hide shame of actions in the past, others conceal hallucination or vanity. Inside them all is a naked soul. Innovator John Carlson's life is nothing but bubbles and mental barriers. As brain tumor nibbles at his senses, his problems to keeping fantasy and reality apart increases. His last illusion - fuel for cumbustion engines - sets on an avalanche after his death. His son Carsey is left with a welded metal box and documents he doesn't understand. To finance the abortive inspiration, John signed up for a mad loan with his huge farm as security. That too becomes Carsey's legacy. It's no way he can repay . Ex-policeman John Jepson is released after serving six years for raping and blackmailing a prostitute. On his way north he kills a man by accident. To hide from the law he enters a situation as substitute priest in small town Pickers Point. The bubble bursts when the local police receive the warrant. A contrary fax machine gives him a weekend's respite. His favorite pastime, watching porno films leads to more disaster, not only for him. Beautiful Cornelia Beckerbie is cheated to perform in a sex film. Desperate to escape shame and libel she leaves her hometown Chicago in panic. As she gets off the bus in peaceful Pickers Point, she has no idea she's stepping from ashes into fire. She takes a job as waitress at Swede Anderson's restaurant. Her bubble bursts when John Jepson drops in for a bite. He recognizes her from the porno exhibition and gets obsessed with the thought of having sex with her. He finds out where she lives and looks her up when she's alone at home. But Cornelia is a bright woman. Her astounding presence of mind blocks his rape attempt in the most refined way. Bubbles keep emerging and popping throughout the story. Fatherhood issues, Carsey's strange women phobia, policewoman Rispa Maye's sexual disposition, Cornelia's smart escape from attempted rape count among the delicate subjects. The biggest bubbles is the fuel box illusion. When it finally detonates Carsey and Cornelia can't decide for smiling or crying.

" Artful block letters on a sign informed Robin that the entrance fee totaled an incredible seventy-five dollars. He stared at the figures as if trying to hypnotize them into a more human amount. The platinum blonde behind the desk kept showing her pretty teeth in a welcoming smile, probably hoping he was considering paying an extra twenty-five. She wasn't used to customers who spent own money. In her experience, sex club visitors had loads of credit cards, none of which connected to their personal bank accounts. Robin returned her smile..."
