Everybody loves a good story

Welcome to Albert Loren's spot on the web.

Read about new title BIG FALLS HEAVY

To book lovers, declining reading is declining a dimension of life. Reading is more than taking in a story; it's exchange of thoughts, it's learning, enrichment, entertainment, excitement...

Sometimes it's about finding new friends...

What's the first thing you notice when you look for a book at the bookstore? Right, the cover. Then you'll look at the back to check the summary. If cover and summary aren't catchy enough, you'll put it away and look for another one.

If cover and summary appeal to you, what next? Right again, you'll flip pages to check the author's usage. First page of course, a random page in the middle and one towards the end. And then, but not until that point, you make up your mind.

And perhaps you found that new friend...

ONE OF THOSE FRIENDS might be Albert Loren's new title BIG FALLS HEAVY.

BIG FALLS HEAVY is a gripping narrative about two young lovers' struggle to stay afloat while they watch the foundation of their life and future sinking into bottomless misery...

BIG FALLS HEAVY takes you on a trip to the backyard of the human mind where respect and decency are out of fashion and replaced by greed and cruelty...

TAKES A SAD GIRL TO SING A SAD SONG
NEVER SAY "it can't get worse". Fate might catch an offensive stress and really make it worse. Superstition? Cornelia Beckerbie won't agree. And she didn't even speak the words - the mere thought started her avalanche. The next piece that formed in her mind was "Get out this, Cornelia - no matter how - get out of it!"

COUNTRY SINGER Carsey Carlson bumps into Cornelia and confirms the general opinion - this girl's looks and charisma have an effect on the beholder. But along with the pretty smile comes a personal record that's less amiable...

SUMMARY

HALLUCINATION?
MUDDY-MINDED INNOVATOR John Carlson is under the impression he has invented fuel that will take the world out of energy crises. To finance, he takes a mad loan with his huge estate as a pawn. Heart attack ends his life before the invention is ready for presentation. His son Carsey is left with a welded box he doesn't understand and a loan he can't repay...

BELOW THE BELT
CHICAGO BELLE Cornelia Beckerbie is cheated to perform in a sex film. To escape the libel and to protect her daughter, she leaves Chicago in panic and lands in small town Pickers Point. She gets a job at a restaurant, meets Carsey and joins his band as a singer and eye-catcher...

DEVIL IN DISGUISE
WANTED ASSASSIN John Jepson opts for Pickers Point as hiding-spot. He recognizes Cornelia from the porn exhibiton and gets obsessed with the thought of having sex with her. He pops up and offers choice between plague and cholera - volunteer or get raped. Despite her shock - or because of it - Cornelia transforms to merciless she-monster. Her way of getting out of the muddle is worth a chapter in any book for assaulted women...

EXCERPT
SHE PICTURED THE NEXT PHASE with a streak of panic. Les Gode returned to pick her up and then drop her off in the middle of town. And that was the end of it. Except that she would be standing there like a bombed out mother in a war movie, holding her daughter's hand in wait for a train on a deserted platform. A broken doll pressed against the child's chest would complete the picture. If it hadn't been for Carsey's steady gaze at her face, she would have flashed a very bitter smile or started crying. His questioning gesture brought her back to the present.
"How do you like to sharing residence with Mrs. Fields?"
"I don't live there any more."
"Where do you live?"
"Nowhere."
"What?"
There was a moment of tense, eyeballing silenced. Then the eruption. A flood of tears dimmed her eyes. The weeks of accumulated frustration rippled out and down her cheeks. It was no way she could stop it. She didn't want to stop it. It was giving vent to the agony or explode. The rentroom defeat had been one blow too many.
Carsey took her in his arms and embraced as hard as he ventured. He felt her tears moistening his skin inside the shirt fabric. Betsy followed the drama with her big eyes wide open. She was too perplexed to be scared. Cornelia sensed the child's discomfort but had no idea how to ease the tension.
"The landlady doesn't allow children. I didn't know."
Betsy looked down to her shoes. It was her fault. She wanted to run away and hide but she didn't know where to find shelter. Cornelia gave her daughter a sad glance.
"It's nobody's fault but we have nowhere to stay."
Carsey pushed her gently from his shoulder but kept seizing her by her upper arms. He too was carrying on a struggle. If he managed to speak the words that stirred in his mind, it would be like a first step to overcome his women phobia. He was surprised that his voice remained steady.
"Yes, you have. Five rooms and a kitchen, furnished and all."
At first, she thought she didn't understand him right. They had only known one another for a couple of hours. As the penny dropped she looked ready to fall on her knees to thank him.
"I can't afford five rooms..."
"Yes, you can. I have a special price for people like you." He formed a zero with thumb and forefinger.
She wrapped her arms around him and squeezed hard. And she imagined she had been in love before. That had been but pale reflections of this. In the corner of her eye she noticed that Betsy took a little jump...

Cornelia's way of helping Carsey getting over his woman and sex fear is strikingly pedogogic. And she loves her teacher's role as much as she loves to take the handsome man on his first trip to ecstasy...

What's cozier than to huddle up in your favorite chair with a good book while the rain whips on the window and the wind shakes the treetops. Or to listen to the quiet noise from the open fire that sparkles in the background. Well, plain silence is all right too. And if the book is good enough it will anyway cut off the outer world with its barrier of casual sounds.

BIG FALLS HEAVY is likely to fit most readers' idea of cozy company through lonely hours. It's a story about the human fancy for hiding inside asylum of self-deception. But lying is frail shelter and each time a bubble pops, pride and integrity go with it. Some bubbles hide shame of actions in the past, others conceal hallucination or vanity; one or two serve to disguise mental imperfection. Inside them all is a naked soul...

The story moves on like night's journey towards dawn. Characters and dialogues are designed to make you feel you sit next to the speaker. The dish is seasoned with humor, philosophy and soft erotica...

" A very well written novel with twists and turns to the plot that help the book remain unpredictable"

Bettyann Bruin, Writers Literary

Albert Loren was born 1945 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Over the years 2000-2006 he published six thrillers of the easygoing kind in UK and USA. BIG FALLS HEAVY is not a thriller. The genre is mainstream or romantic drama. Or good old stories if that choice had been among literary categories.
When not writing, Albert devotes to his favorite pastimes oil painting and guitar playing. And he loves to study life's theater, not least to sample ideas and characters to his stories. Next time you sip coffee at an outdoor restaurant he might be sitting at a nearby table, designing a role for you in a coming work. The choice of location in the book has a connection to his origin. Western Illinois is known for Swedish influence; Bishop Hill, Carl Sandburg etc. All the characters in the book are Americans, though some of Swedish stock.
